Position Overview

Riverside Research is seeking a tech-savvy program manager with direct, hands-on program management experience designing and delivering prototype projects for small UAS and robotics technologies for maritime, air, and ground military applications. The program manager will oversee autonomy-focused projects from strategy, implementation, technical and product delivery, and transition of cutting-edge commercial technologies. Prior experience supporting commercial and DoD programs focused on autonomous systems and related technologies is required. The position will collaborate with internal and external technical teams, DoD leaders, recognized technical experts, and warfighters to develop coordinated approaches to unique DoD innovation problems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead collaborative teams in the design, execution, and management of projects focused on applying and integrating innovative commercial solutions to DoD problem-sets
  • Provide subject matter expertise to support prototype technology development in the field of multi-domain autonomous systems and related technologies including small UAS, robotics, counter UAS, AI, cybersecurity, AI, ML operations.
  • Identify DoD problems that could be solved by commercial autonomous solutions and lead problem curation, acquisition, and funding strategies with diverse sets of endusers, stakeholders, and policymakers.
  • Participate in outreach and collaboration with commercial, industry, academia, other non-traditional vendors, DoD entities, program offices, and technical subject matter experts from these communities.
  • Apply knowledge of relevant DoD technology acquisition and RDT&E services, as well as commercial best practices, and translate that to develop time-sensitive transition and DoD-wide scaling opportunities.
  • Apply knowledge of technical systems and sensor platforms (eg optical, acoustic, radar detection sensors), commercial software/DevSecOps processes, and AI algorithms to educate endusers , verify and validate commercial technology, and provide real-time feedback during tests and demonstrations.
  • Leverage a technical background in defense systems to aid in the development and execution of multiple projects across DIU portfolios. Additionally, provide subject matter expertise to other/adjacent DIU technology portfolios where technologies converge in a single solution.
  • Understand how the relevant acquisition and research arms of the military services develop technology priorities and how to translate that into the private sector
  • Manage relationships between DoD stakeholders, DoD and IC innovation ecosystems, and commercial entities required for successful program execution.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in technical or related field (Electrical Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science) and a minimum of 15 years of related experience. A business degree with acceptable relevant experience may be considered.  12 years with a Master’s degree or 8 yrs with a PhD.
  • Minimum 10 years of technical project management, product management for defense, intelligence, national security, or diplomatic missions
  • Current Top Secret clearance, ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance
  • Demonstrated experience supporting prototype projects related to autonomous systems and related other technologies
  • Knowledge and understanding of how private industry and DoD can integrate and collaborate to solve technical capability gaps
  • Proven ability to lead diverse project teams and provide status reporting, briefings, and assessments to internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in rapid-needs assessment processes and the proven ability to convert problems and capability gaps to fielded systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential

Desired:

  • Prior military experience that allows the candidate to curate problems and define requirements with military end users. 
  • Prior experience supporting and leading government and commercial vendor collaborative teams to rapidly iterate and deliver project tasks and milestones.
  • A strong familiarity with radios, network communications, video streaming, reinforcement learning, model training, and data collection is preferred.

Global Comp

$150,000 - $225,000 This represents the typical compensation range for this position based on experience, location and other factors.
