Position Overview

Riverside Research's Applied Mathematics and Physics Solutions (AMPS) group is seeking an Electrical Engineer to work alongside our Plasma Physics research staff and be involved in all aspects of our team’s work from performing experiments to recording and analyzing experimental data. Our current research interests include plasma material interactions, electromagnetic properties of materials subjected to high temperatures, rf and microwave plasma source development, and electric propulsion for small satellites. This position will include work on independent research and development (IRAD) and U.S. government contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate a wide range of precision calibrated tools including, but not limited to: rf, microwave, and optical test equipment. 
  • Set up, modify, and maintain vacuum systems and experimental apparatus’s (training provided if necessary). 
  • Basic electrical circuit design for custom diagnostic tools. 
  • Operate various plasma sources and plasma diagnostic equipment. 
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and correct malfunctions by modification, rework, repair, and/or maintenance. 
  • Gather, maintain, and compile technical data. 
  • Create detailed documentation of experimental results and various investigations. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications 

  • Basic computer software proficiency, preferably including laboratory or industrial applications. 
  • Effective problem identification and solution skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. 
  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, or other relevant engineering degree. Degree requirement may be waived in favor of sufficient industry experience. 

 

Desired Qualifications 

  • Experience operating spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, power meters, signal generators, lasers, spectrometers and/or other RF/optical/IR test equipment. 
  • Experience with high vacuum/ultra-high vacuum environments, vacuum systems, and plasma sources. 
  • Experience using and/or programming in Labview or other data acquisition software. 
  • Basic proficiency with hand tools and simple machining practices. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, or other relevant engineering degree with 2+ years of experience.  
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic simulation software (CST, HFSS, COMSOL, etc.). 

Global Comp

$62,000 - $100,000 This represents the typical compensation range for this position based on experience, location and other factors.
