Position Overview

The Riverside Research Information Technology (IT) team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the role of Senior Systems Administrator, capable of providing information technology support to groups performing cutting-edge research supporting national security interests. In this senior-level position, a successful candidate will play a key role in assisting internal teams in automating and optimizing their operations, processes, and improving deployment strategies. This includes leveraging strong Linux administration skills to manage, maintain, and secure the underlying infrastructure supporting internal development in multiple distributed classified computing environments. This position will be in our New York office.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier3 support of a VMware based environment that includes both Linux and Windows machines
  • Implementing, maintaining, and hardening Linux servers and virtual machines that host CI/CD tools and production environments, ensuring high availability and security compliance.
  • Capability to troubleshoot complex information technology problems using all available resources
  • Monitoring operations and applications, including using Linux-based logging and monitoring tools to diagnose and resolve performance issues.
  • Act as the liaison between the customer and IT management
  • Develop new and maintain existing installation and configuration procedures
  • Working knowledge installing, upgrading, and configuring hardware and software
  • Apply security updates/patches to Linux and Windows operation systems
  • Remediate monthly compliance scans
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures
  • Assist with management of communication security accounts and related devices
  • Coordinate with tier 3 functional roles within the information technology team as needed
  • Coordinate and communicate all significant information technology changes/outages with the appropriate parties such as the customer, management, and information security
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 8 years' experience, an advanced degree with 6 years' experience, or equivalent work experience
  • Strong, verifiable experience in Linux system administration, including configuration, patching, user management, and security hardening (e.g., DISA STIGs).
  • Experience with or on Linux or Unix based OS systems using common UNIX/Linux tools (ssh, tar, sed, grep, awk, vi, emacs, cron, etc...)
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented, responsible team player able to work independently with minimal daily direction; effective/efficient written/verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of communication security processes and procedures including related hardware
  • Ability to work and interact with technically and organizationally diverse personnel
  • DoD 8140 (451) Systems Admin - Intermediate Certification (Security+ or Equivalent)
  • Active Top-Secret (or higher) USG Clearance with SCI eligibility

Desired Qualifications

 

  • Seeking a candidate that has at least 6 years’ experience performing systems administration
  • Experience across traditional IT stack (Clients, Networking, Servers, Storage)
  • Has applied STIGS to Linux operating systems, Windows operating systems, network devices, ESXi hosts, and required applications.
  • Experience as a DevOps Engineer including planning, advising on, and executing DevOps responsibilities and CI/CD solutions
  • Experience with build systems and maintaining tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, etc.
  • Utilized an automation tool(s) to manage Linux environments as ansible
  • Active Top-Secret clearance with SCI adjudication and a CI poly

Global Comp

$115,000- $175,000 This represents the typical compensation range for this position based on experience, location and other factors.
